Dipteryx oleifera. Mountain almond tree

Is a valuable hardwood tree that can grow up to 50 meters high. Its wood, along with mahogany, is one of the most popular tropical woods due to its durability. It is mainly used to make furniture.

The fruit is of high importance for the survival of the Great Soldier Macaw. Many mammals such as monkeys, coatis and rodents also eat the fragrant fruit. The gnawed, furry-looking fruit is often found under trees in the early dry season. The shiny seed is edible and has a sweet-tart flavor and is used in soaps and cosmetic products.
